Mechanical Engineer

  • Develops and writes task analysis, cost analysis and proposals for implementation of new processes or improvements to existing processes
  • Selects or designs parts and tooling to meet customer specifications and expectations
  • Works closely with line personnel to ensure newly developed parts and tooling are correctly installed and functioning properly
  • Confers with established personnel to implement standard operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions
  • Develops, plans and models alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components, and recommends implementation of improved procedures, process improvements and/or set-up reduction techniques
  • Confers with workers in other departments such as marketing, training and development, and engineering, to provide technical information
  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions as needed to stay apprised of new developments in field
  • Develops and conducts related equipment training programs and demonstrates skills to trainees (serves as a mentor or coach to established personnel
  • Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization
  • Performs equipment and facilities layouts
  • Develops programs for various equipment including machine tools, robots, inspection / vision systems, etc.. Optimizes machining and other manufacturing processes. Recommends implementation of improved procedures, process improvements, and setup reduction techniques
  • Reviews project instructions and drawings to ascertain specifications, procedures, objectives, measuring equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies
  • Completes engineering drawing(s) for part fabrication by internal or external vendors
  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments
  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method
  • Maintains work instructions and procedures as required to assure uniformity and consistency in manufacturing activities
  • Establishes and implements "root cause and corrective action" measures for nonconforming parts
  • Works with Industrial & Quality Engineers in the development of FMEA's to identify potential problem areas in the production of parts
  • Acts as customer/QA contact for quality-related issues when required
  • Is involved in all aspects of project planning
  • Monitors the function, cycle time and other pertinent parameters of production equipment
  • Recommends and/or initiates corrective action for problems identified on production equipment
  • Designs and orders fixturing for production and prototype parts as needed
  • Identifies and/or develops new tooling for Production & Prototype parts to reduce cycle time, production costs and/or operator problems
  • Provides technical support for other departments (Design) regarding production issues
  • Develops/Optimizes process flow to increase efficiency of operation
  • Prepares reports concerning departmental activities as required
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from four-year college or university
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word applications software is necessary for this position holder
  • Auto Cad drafting knowledge is necessary
