Test Engineer - HVAC (Performance & Durability Testing)

HVAC Performance & Durability Testing

  • The HVAC, Vibration and Acoustic team’s primary purposes and objectives are to support, schedule, coordinate, and execute the testing necessary to validate the design & production process (DV/PV) intent of MAHLE product such as Heat Exchangers – Evaporators, Condensers, Heater Cores, HVAC modules, Battery Cooling Plates, Oil Coolers, etc. The Test Engineer’s role is to be responsible for a certain test area or several pieces of test equipment and to execute the above stated purposes and objectives.
  • Lead and participate with a group of technicians in conducting hands on test stand set-ups for HVAC performance and durability testing.
  • Develop and write new test procedures and technical test reports. Also the ability to write work instructions and checklists.
  • Schedule technician workload and provide solutions for complicated test schedules.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering and the validation lab to ensure customer needs are met and to provide technical direction and oversight.
  • Assist and provide guidance to engineering design of components, subsystems, and systems.
  • Analyze data for accuracy and troubleshoot complex test equipment and stands.
  • Develop new test equipment specifications and purchase new equipment.
  • Travel to external test house suppliers to manage outsourced testing. Schedule and coordinate this activity ensuring correct set-up & test procedure.
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar Engineering related discipline - Required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Automotive Testing, Durability Testing and/or Performance Testing and Development - Required
  • Thermal product experience such as: Heat Exchangers, Evaporators, Condensers, Heater Cores, Engine Cooling, Radiators, Refrigeration, Actuators, Blower Motors, HVAC Modules, etc.) - is a plus
  • Experience working in a Test facility environment - is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with automotive HVAC module development and testing: airflow test stands, thermal performance calorimeters, EV chambers, data acquisition, vibrations shakers, and instrumentation - Highly Desired.
  • Refrigeration systems knowledge and experience - Highly Desired
  • Basic Electrical skills & knowledge such as: ability to read Schematics and use hand tools - Required
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and sensors and how to mechanically and electrically connect them to equipment (RTDs, TCs, pressure transducer, flow meter, etc…) - Required.
  • Knowledge of IATF/TS16949 audit requirements for a lab - Required.
