Materials Project Engineer

  • Operation of various measurement and testing machines common to the laboratory environment such as, but not limited to, optical microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, energy dispersive spectrometer, fatigue, tensile, wear and hardness testing machines
  • Conduct production product audits (honing and microstructure evaluations)
  • Manage interaction with plant personnel and with the customer
  • Support plant personnel with developing new processes and work instructions required to support the quality system
  • Provide plant support with problem solving using Taguchi DOE’s, fishbone analysis and other problem solving tools
  • Provide technical service reports, trip reports, and monthly reporting
  • Technical collaboration with the customer and other technical center personnel
  • Travel will be required both domestic and international
  • Maintain awareness of and meet the requirements of the Company Quality and Environmental Systems
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline is required
  • Minimum five (5) or more years of work experience in project management, plant support and engine product development assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to work in a self-sufficient manner
  • Broad engine component background
  • Expertise in cylinder liner honing and piston ring/cylinder liner material/surface finish compatibility
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • A basic understanding of controls plans, process FMEA’s, and process flow diagrams
