Senior Corporate Counsel

  • The Corporate Counsel will serve as a critical member of the Legal Team that provides legal counsel to MAHLE’s operational and service functions.
  • The ideal candidate will have an initial foundation of:
  • Five to seven years of legal experience with a minimum of least three years of substantive legal automotive experience and one year of law firm experience;
  • Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts by or between automotive suppliers and original equipment manufacturers; and
  • Excellent multitasking skills that enable the candidate to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in employment law matters is a plus.
  • The Corporate Counsel’s essential duties and responsibilities include providing support for or performing the following:
  • Negotiating and drafting commercial contracts by and between automotive suppliers and original equipment manufacturers.
  • Providing legal counsel to MAHLE’s operational and service functions with the goal of accomplishing MAHLE’s business objective while minimizing legal and commercial risks.
  • Providing legal counsel on employment matters, including matters involving FMLA, FLSA, ADA and discrimination, as well as gathering information for and drafting responses to agency complaints.
  • Developing best practices policies to insulate MAHLE from liability.
  • Assisting with preparation of pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
  • Researching legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions and codes.
  • Performing other duties that may be assigned.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school in the United States with strong academic and leadership background.
  • Progressive professional legal experience with 5 to 7 years of experience in legal matters involving the automotive industry and one year of law firm experience and demonstrated experience analyzing and providing counsel on automotive and commercial matters.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team; excellent leadership and collaboration skills; excellent writing, oral communication, analytical, organizational and strategic thinking skills; ability to work effectively in a global environment; and ability to multi-task various matters related to several areas of the law.
  • Licensed or in-house certified to practice law in the state of Michigan.
  • Periodic domestic travel with overnight stay, plus the potential for international travel.
  • Employee must be able to work additional hours in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week and additional days beyond Monday through Friday as the workload requires.
