Product Engineer

  • Design engineering for plain engine bearings. Product Engineers have complete ownership of the design elements for specific engine development projects. The role encompasses the production of CAD based designs, material selection based on in house engine simulation techniques and technical analysis of tested prototypes. A full understanding of engine operation and the bearing system will be developed.
  • Product engineering also works closely with manufacturing engineering to provide valuable information to the development of production equipment as well as maintaining the global MAHLE standards for engine bearing design
  • Duties
  • Propose designs including material selection for quotations to sales & applications engineering staff.
  • Carry out simulations of bearings for new and prototype engine projects using in-house software and provide support and feedback on bearing design.
  • Create CAD drawings based on the MAHLE product standards and distribute through global database systems.
  • Interact with MAHLE manufacturing engineers to ensure manufacturability and maintain product and design standards.
  • Perform field analysis on returned parts including interpretation of metallurgical and metrology results to provide linkage with material damage mechanisms and engine operating environments.
  • Qualifications
  • Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Skills and Experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player, able to communicate with all levels and disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines
  • Knowledge of metallurgical inspection and analysis techniques
  • Experience of CAD packages CATIA V5 & PRO-E
  • Knowledge of PLM systems e.g. SAP
  • Competencies
  • Ability to work on own and as part of a team.
  • Confidence to communicate effectively at all levels using multiple techniques.
  • Must be self motivated and possess the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy when producing technical data.
