Head of Human Resources & Labor Relations

  • Works directly with the local HR & Management teams to ensure MAHLE is an Employer of Choice by helping maintain an environment where employees are engaged in our business & know we value them.
  • Serves as strategic member of the Plant Management team by aligning HR practices with business strategy to ensure organizational targets are met or exceeded.
  • Coaches Managers & Supervisors in a variety of areas including recruiting & retention, talent management, employee development, and organizational change.
  • Prepares manpower plan and ensures that best quality candidates are hired for positions; implements appropriate recruiting, screening and selection methods; ensures appropriate onboarding of new hires.
  • Develops and implements training plans and programs for employees and management to ensure the appropriate level of skills are acquired, maintained & demonstrated on the job.
  • Develops Human Resource policies and programs that promote positive employee relations.
  • Conducts investigations of employee relations, performance, policy violation issues and recommends countermeasures to resolve.
  • Manages Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Short Term Disability (STD) programs.
  • May assist with Workers’ Compensation management.
  • Develops, extracts, maintains and updates key HR metrics including absenteeism, turnover, recruitment costs, demographic profiles, terminations and skill shortages.
  • Manages performance appraisal process to ensure goals and objectives are clearly communicated and performance reviews are robust & completed in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates career development and succession planning activities.
  • Prepares and administers human resources departmental budget and coordinates salary planning process.
  • Conducts wage surveys to ensure an equitable/competitive compensation program is maintained.
  • Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulations regarding employment practices.
  • Supervises employees in the Human Resources Department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Supports / participates in various company initiatives such as TS16949, ISO 14001, Lean Manufacturing and cost reduction strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Human Resources, Human Resources Management or related field from an accredited college or university – Required
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a Human Resource Generalist role – Required
  • 5 or more years of experience working in a Human Resource Managerial role within an Automotive Manufacturing or Production environment – Required
  • Must have experience working in Union / Labor Relations, managing Unionized and Labor workforce
  • Experience negotiating and administering Collective Bargaining Agreements – Required
  • Must have experience leading at least 2 or more labor and/or workforce negotiations, share of agreements, etc. – Required
  • Experience running and working in a Production and/or Manufacturing Plant – Required
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills to develop HR strategies and policies – Required
  • Ability to handle projects with multiple work streams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of HR topics in necessary
  • Must have strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility as a peer with the management team
  • Human Resources Certification (PHR / SHRM) is preferred
  • Proficient in all Federal, State and Local Employment and Worker’s Compensation laws
