History of MAHLE in Portugal.

The Plant resulted from an investment from the Brazilian Group Cofap, which in 1989 introduced the Project to the Portuguese Government. In September 1990 it is performed the deed of the Company’s constitution, which initiates its activity with the designation of Cofapeuropa, S.A..

In 1992 it is recruited the team of Portuguese technicians that, after receiving training is Brazil for 9 months, will start the Company’s production in May 1993. In December the first million segments is produced.

In 1997 the Company is acquired by the MAHLE Group and undergoes through a well succeeded integration process. With this acquisition it starts a cycle of investment in new manufacturing processes and new markets broadening.

  • 1997: Integration in MAHLE’s Group and production of the 50th million piston rings

  • 1999: Change of designation to MAHLE – Componentes de Motores, S.A.

  • 2000: Beginning of nitrided steel piston rings’ production

  • 2001: Beginning of piston rings’ production with chromium-plating coating

  • 2005: Beginning of piston rings’ production with PVD coating

  • 2007: Lead Plant of piston rings’ production in Europe

  • 2010: Start up of the production line for competition piston rings

  • 2011: Start up of the production line for U-Flex piston rings

  • 2011: Plant expansion in 2,600 m²
