MAHLE Japan, Ltd. is located in Kawagoe, Saitama prefecture with approximately 660 employees.

MAHLE Japan, Ltd. developed and manufactured the industry’s first plastic cylinder head cover for passenger vehicle application in 1982. Today, this is one of the several products that the company is responsible for under the Group’s business unit “Filtration and Engine Peripherals”. With development and production capabilities, the company works closely with other MAHLE locations to serve the global needs of Japanese OE manufacturers.

Kawagoe has approximately 354,000 residents and is located about 30 minutes from central Tokyo. Historically, the city has prospered from trade and providing commodities to Tokyo. With many historic buildings, Kawagoe is called the “Little Edo” the small Tokyo.

MAHLE Engine Components Japan Corporation is a leading manufacturer of diesel pistons for commercial vehicles in the Asian market. Aside from the development and production of diesel pistons, engineers at the Technical Center in Okegawa, Saitama prefecture provide engineering solutions for Japanese passenger car, commercial vehicle application, stationary engines in the areas of pistons, bearings, camshafts and other products under the Group’s business unit “Engine Systems and Components”.

Historically Okegawa has been the sixth station of the so called “Nakasendo” road which led from Edo (today’s Tokyo) to Kyoto and thus has prospered as a post station where travelers could rest on their journey. The city is also known for its safflower used for seed oil and dyeing. Okegawa can be reached within 1 hour ride by train from central Tokyo.

MAHLE is based in Tokyo with three subsidiaries: MAHLE Japan, Ltd., MAHLE Behr Japan K.K., and MAHLE Trading Japan Co., Ltd. Approximately 190 employees are working in Tokyo.

MAHLE Japan, Ltd. functions as the headquarters of MAHLE in Japan and furthermore of the Asia-Pacific region (excl. China and India), and provides different services, i.e. Sales, IT, Finance/Accounting, HR, Legal, and Communications/PR to other group companies.

The history of MAHLE Behr Japan KK might still be short, but the company is under MAHLE Behr GmbH & Co, KG which has more than a century of expertise in heating and cooling technologies. Under the Group’s business unit “Thermal Management”, the company provides solutions for engine cooling, air conditioning and battery thermal management for Japanese OE manufacturers.

Under the Group’s business unit “Aftermarket”, the company works closely with different MAHLE production locations to serve the Aftermarket needs not only in its home turf, but worldwide. Already a market leader in Egypt, Pakistan, and the ASEAN area, the company is the key driver in promoting the “MAHLE IZUMI” brand wherever Japanese vehicles have a sizeable presence.
